There aren’t many players in this week’s KPMG Women’s PGA field with ties to Washington, but Caroline Inglis is one. She hails from Vancouver, Wash., roughly three hours away from Sammamish by car. Following the last round of the Meijer LPGA last Sunday, she was able to fly home from Michigan, spend the night at home, and make the drive to Sahalee on Monday alongside her husband.

The hectic travel was worth it. Inglis, who played Sahalee a few times as a collegian while at Oregon, will play in the second-to-last group in Sunday’s final round, with a great opportunity to post her best LPGA finish. She heads into the final round in a tie for fifth place; Inglis, 30, tied for 10th at the AIG Women’s Open four years ago, which has been her top finish on the circuit.
“It’s obviously why I play and it’s the position I want to be in,” she said after shooting 69 on Sunday to move to 3-under 213 for the tournament. “... This is why you play golf, to be in positions like this and go out and try to win it.”
Two of her top highlights on Saturday: A holed bunker shot for birdie at the seventh hole and an eagle-3 at the 11th. She has plenty of family here this week, though her brother Colin, a PGA Professional who has played in the PGA, works at a club in Eugene, Oregon, but was unable to make it. This weekend is the club’s member-guest, and duty called.
“He’s like, ‘I’m sorry,’” and I’m like, ‘I get it,'" she said. "It’s the PGA thing. It’s their major championship.”
